Cruise Ship Fashion: Packing Tips for a Stylish Voyage

Ahoy, fashion lovers! Are you ready to set sail on a cruise ship adventure but unsure of what to pack? Don't worry, we've got you covered. In this blog post, we'll guide you through the art of dressing for a cruise. From poolside lounging to elegant dinner parties, we'll help you create a fabulous and versatile wardrobe that ensures you're always dressed to impress.

Casual Daytime Attire:
During the day, comfort is key. Opt for relaxed and lightweight clothing such as sundresses, shorts, and t-shirts. Don't forget to pack a swimsuit, cover-up, sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat for lounging by the pool or exploring sunny ports of call.

Evening Chic:
Most cruises lines have relaxed their evening dress codes from formal to a more elegant casual.  They still will have some nights where you can dress, so you might want to consider packing cocktail dresses, stylish separates, or tailored pants paired with fashionable tops. Make sure to include a versatile blazer or cardigan to layer up if the evenings get chilly.  For men, collard shirts, nice pants are what you will normally see.  If you choose to wear jeans, make sure they are neat, no ripped or torn jeans.  Some cruise lines do not allow shorts in the dining room, so keep that in mind.  Also, most cruise lines have a Buffett area, which is casual if you choose not to dress.

Themed Nights:
Cruise lines often host themed nights, such as tropical or 70s disco parties. Be sure to research the themes beforehand and pack accordingly. Don't be afraid to get creative and have fun with your outfits. Bold prints, vibrant colors, and accessories like hats or statement jewelry can add that extra touch of pizzazz.

Comfortable Shoes:
With all the exciting activities on board and shore excursions, having comfortable shoes is a must. Pack a variety of footwear, including sneakers or walking shoes for excursions, sandals for the pool and beach, and a pair of dress shoes for formal evenings.  Some excursions will require water shoes as well.  Make sure you do your research on this before hand.  A good travel agent can assist with this.

Practical Accessories:
In addition to your stylish clothing choices, don't forget about practical accessories. A tote bag for beach days, a small crossbody bag for exploring ports of call, a versatile scarf for layering, and sunscreen to protect your skin are all essential items to include in your cruise packing list.  I also like to bring some over the counter medicines such as Advil or Tylenol.  If you are prone to motion discomfort, bring some Dramamine or something equivalent.

Other Items:
While some cruise lines do provide shampoo and conditioner, some do not.  I always bring my own.  Most also have a blow dryer in the stateroom (again, I always bring my own).  Bring along your curling iron or straightening iron as well!

Now that you have some helpful guidelines for packing your cruise ship wardrobe, get ready to embark on a stylish and unforgettable adventure at sea. Remember to check the specific dress code policies of your chosen cruise line and plan your outfits accordingly. Bon voyage and sail away in style!
